Current remit and meeting structure of UK adhesion.
The remit of UK Adhesion has always been to provide an accessible forum at reasonable cost for the
adhesion community, particularly for students and for postdoctoral scientists. UK Adhesion does not
have a membership fee or a formal membership list. Neither do we aim to make a profit from our
meetings. Rather, we rely on the scientific support of our colleagues to keep meetings vibrant, and the
financial support of industrial partners to keep meeting registration fees as low as possible. Meetings
are organised by members of the UK Adhesion Committee (LINK) on a rotational basis, however,
suggestions for alternative themes and/or venues for meetings by other willing organisers will always be
considered if presented to the committee.
UK adhesion aims to hold two meetings a year. If these are not joint meetings with European Societies,
they are always of one day duration with lunch provided. Such meetings are usually limited to between
80-120 delegates in order to foster an environment conducive to a frank and friendly exchange of data
and views. From 2008 onwards a focused meeting on ‘Adhesion in Immune and Inflammatory Function’
is anchored to the spring window. The autumn meeting may have a focused remit on other aspects of
adhesion biology (e.g. cancer or angiogenesis), or may be more broadly themed at the discretion of the
local organising committee. Joint meetings with other societies generally fall within this biannual scheme
however, on occasion an additional meeting may be announced. Meeting themes and venues to 2011
are available on this site (select meetings button), including detailed information of the next UK
Adhesion meeting in the calendar (select meetings button).
